Sara Barackzay is an artist and illustrator born in Herat, Afghanistan during the first Taliban emirate. In 2019, President Ashraf Ghani asked Sara to open an animation school in Kabul, but threats and attacks forced Sara and her family to go into hiding. She arrived in Vancouver as a refugee in September 2021. She is currently Artist in Residence at Green College and is attending Vancouver Film School.
